Community practice: prepare our hearts
“But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.” // Matthew 6:33 AMP
“So, friends, we can now—without hesitation—walk right up to God, into “the Holy Place.” Jesus has cleared the way by the blood of his sacrifice, acting as our priest before God. The “curtain” into God’s presence is his body. So let’s do it—full of belief, confident that we’re presentable inside and out. Let’s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word. Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching." // Hebrews 10:19-25 MSG
One of our core values is "fueled by the Holy Spirit" -- we want to intentionally seek God's presence, power, and beauty as we head into our fall season. By setting apart a week to seek God's presence as a community, we are asking God to do a mighty move of His Spirit. We truly believe that as our whole church family participates in this week, God will honor our corporate request to see His kingdom come in the Chino Valley as it is in Heaven.
Read over the coming week’s schedule
This year, we will be focusing on Luke 15 as our foundation for Seek Week. Every day, we will have the opportunity to dig into one aspect of Jesus’ teaching through these famous parables and ask God to reveal more of Himself to us. You'll find a daily community practice you can participate in at home, as well as additional resources to support your devotional time. Below is an outline of the week.
Sunday // Seek Week Launch: Prepare our hearts at our Sunday gathering, and by setting aside a time of prayer / candle lighting in our homes.
Monday // Luke 15: 1-2 Take a prayer walk around your neighborhood.
Tuesday // Luke 15: 3-7 Fast a meal and pray.
Wednesday // Luke 15: 8-10 Attend the Worship & Prayer Night at The Bridge (6:30-8pm)
Thursday // Luke 15: 11-20 Take a prayer walk around your neighborhood.
Friday // Luke 15: 21-24 Fast from media and pray.
Saturday // Luke 15: 25-32 Take a prayer walk around your community.
Sunday // Amen Invite a friend to church and come to pre-service prayer where we can say "Amen" to all that God has done this week.
Light a candle and close the day in prayer
This evening, in whatever time or space you have available, spend a few moments in prayer with Jesus. We invite you to set aside a few moments to light a candle in your home and invite the Holy Spirit to come. If you’re able, take an extended moment to pray, worship, and just enjoy the presence of God as we prepare our hearts for the week ahead. You might read a Psalm -- you can do this alone or with friends or family -- and then spend some time asking Jesus to turn your affections to him. Ask him to prepare your heart to seek his face this week. If you're praying with a group, one option is to spend a few moments sharing what's on your heart for this week and pray into those places with your group.
